Parent Child Center Assistant Teacher

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting the teachers with planning, implementing, and supervising the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the center;

  • Gearing the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for his/her interests, disabilities, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning;

  • Considering the individual child in relation to their culture and social-economic background and treat each child with dignity and respect;

  • Be responsible for the order arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom and help each child become aware of his/her role as an integral member of a group;

  • Participate in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education and attend all staff meetings;

  • Implement methods for effective utilizing the service of classroom assistant;

  • Planning and implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the students;

  • All other tasks assigned by the Director and Assistant Director.

Education and Experience

  • 1 to 2 years of experience;

  • Must pass Illinois State background check;

  • Good written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy. Caring and compassionate attitude toward children, staff, parents and others;

  • First Aid Training, CPR Training, Certified Teacher, Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development Associate (CDA), Early Child Development Coursework.

Additional Qualifications

  • Must be 19 years of age or older;

  • Complete Mandated Reporter certificate/CANTS 22 form;

  • TB test;

  • Provide immunization record(proof of TDAP within last 7 years/proof of MMR);

  • Proof of Illinois Gateways Registry;

  • SIDS/SBS/Trauma informed practice training ( free provided trainings on Illinois Gateways Registry);

  • High School Diploma or GED;

  • Illinois Food Handler Certification preferred;

  • Receive a Physical Examination;

  • Participate in 15 clock hours of Gateways in-service training per year.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: From $15.00 per hour
