The Urban League's counseling department serves clientele from all walks of lives. Our department programs help individuals and families, from birth to adulthood. Our viable counseling programs address the social and cultural needs of our clients.

The Parent/ Childhood Education Center     309.672-4358

In addition to being a qualified day care provider, we provide child care and support for parents with children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, and are a designated Head Start site.

In order to produce a nurturing and stable family structure, the Urban League offers various parenting classes. Classes are held periodically throughout the year. Parenting classes are offered to build a nurturing and stable family structure.

These classes emphasize the importance of:

  • Parent/child interaction
  • Family values
  • Child raising techniques
  • Family communication
  • Mental, social, emotional, and intellectual childhood development
  • Many other topics related to the basic fundamentals of parenting

Teens Organized for Pride and Success (TOPS)     309.672-4277

TOPS is a primary prevention program for youths ages 10 through high school. The program focuses on teenage pregnancy prevention and preventing negative behaviors.

  • Helps males and females to choose positive life options
  • Promotes parental involvement
  • Provides academic tutoring
  • Well developed age appropriate curriculum
  • Small group discussions
  • Stresses communication between parent and child
 
Supervised Visitation     309.672-4360

Designed to increase and improve the accessibility and quality of visitations for families under the supervision of the Department of Children and Family Services.

  • One-on-one interaction among facilitator, foster parent(s), child, and natural parents.
  • Enhancement of parent/child relationships.
  • Therapeutic program of activities.
  • Routinely scheduled in-home visits.
  • Safe transportation of children to and from foster care.
 
Family Habilitation services     309.672-4360

Services designed to assist parents or other caregivers to maintain or reunify their family unit. These services are often provided in the client's home and are protective services to assist in maintaining the family and strengthening the ability of parents or caregivers to provide adequate childcare and to improve parenting skills.
